Villa Vie Residences suspends Odyssey operations
The company cited sharply higher fuel expenses and said it would consider restructuring or Chapter 11 protection during a 60-day pause.

Florida-based Villa Vie Residences has suspended operations, disrupting the long-term voyage of Villa Vie Odyssey and requiring more than 200 passengers to leave the ship they had called home since 2024.
Residents were reportedly given seven hours to pack their belongings and disembark in Cambodia. The vessel began its journey from Northern Ireland in October 2024.
Villa Vie attributed the suspension to rising fuel costs that it said made continued operations impossible under its existing model. According to figures provided by the company, monthly fuel expenses increased from a historical average of about $1,800 per cabin to between $6,000 and $8,000 per cabin in parts of Asia.
The operator said costs of that scale could not simply be transferred to residents and had created unsustainable financial pressure. It plans to use a 60-day pause to examine restructuring options or seek Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
A cited news report said the ship’s lender had taken control of the vessel. The Odyssey was expected to move from Cambodia to Singapore.
