Ups and Downs makes at-sea debut aboard P&O Cruises Arcadia

The theatre group performed during the ships Greenock stopover as part of its Pride of Britain Award celebration.

The Ups and Downs theatre group staged its first performance at sea aboard P&O Cruises Arcadia to celebrate winning a Pride of Britain Award the previous year.

The Hamilton-based group, which comprises young people with Down Syndrome and their families, joined Arcadia during a stopover in Greenock while the ship was travelling from Iceland to Cork in the Republic of Ireland.

A 57-member cast performed songs including Ring of Fire, Material Girl and Burning Love. Audience members clapped and sang along, and the group received a standing ovation after its performance.

The ships captain welcomed the group aboard before members attended an exclusive party with live music and dancing. Following their own performance, they had a three-course dinner and took front-row seats for a Music of Scotland show in the Palladium. The group was invited onto the stage again during the show for a final salute from the audience.
