U.S. Retains Level 2 Advisory for Turks and Caicos
Updated guidance urges increased caution over crime and reminds cruise visitors about strict ammunition controls.
The U.S. Department of State updated its travel advisory for the Turks and Caicos Islands on July 7, 2026, while keeping the territory at Level 2 because of crime. The guidance says criminal activity is concentrated mainly on Providenciales but applies across the territory, including cruise visits to Grand Turk.
According to the advisory, reported concerns include sexual assaults, opportunistic theft such as pickpocketing and purse snatching, and scams in tourist areas. Grand Turk Cruise Center, the territory’s only dedicated cruise port, handled more than one million passengers in 2025, according to cruise-sector reporting.
U.S. guidance also advises travelers to inspect their luggage before departing the United States to ensure they have not inadvertently packed firearms or ammunition. The State Department says such items, including individual rounds, are tightly controlled in the territory and violations may bring fines or imprisonment. U.S. and Caribbean news organizations have documented American visitors, including cruise passengers, facing legal consequences after ammunition was discovered in their bags.
