Typhoon Saudel delays Spectrum of the Seas sailing from Shanghai
Royal Caribbean shortened a late-August cruise after the Port of Shanghai closed during the storm.
Typhoon Saudel caused the Port of Shanghai to close, forcing Royal Caribbean to extend Spectrum of the Seas’ current voyage. Guests booked on the ship’s August twenty-eighth sailing were informed that their cruise would be delayed and shortened.
The revised itinerary was scheduled to depart Shanghai on Saturday, visit Jeju’s Seogwipo port in South Korea, spend Monday at sea and return to Shanghai early Tuesday morning.
Royal Caribbean said passengers taking the shortened cruise would receive a prorated refund for the missed day, initially provided as refundable onboard credit. The company said Future Cruise Credits were expected by Sept. 15, 2026, and had to be booked by August 29, 2027.
According to Royal Caribbean, prepaid Okinawa shore excursions booked through the cruise line were canceled, with the money to be returned as refundable onboard credit. A letter also said passengers would receive four nights of Crown & Anchor Society loyalty points despite the revised sailing lasting three nights.
Royal Caribbean said it would reimburse certain non-refundable transportation change fees and related travel costs, with coverage of up to $200 per guest, per day.
