Thunder Bay cruise terminal records 10 ship visits in 2026
Four cruise liners called at Pool 6 Terminal, with direct economic impact estimated at up to $1.4 million.

Pool 6 Terminal at the Port of Thunder Bay welcomed four cruise ships for a combined 10 visits in 2026. The vessels included Viking Octantis and Victory II.
Paul Pepe estimated that cruise activity generated between $1.2 million and $1.4 million in direct economic impact for Thunder Bay. Most cruise passengers visiting the city are from the United States, although the ships also carry Canadians and travelers from other countries.
The number of calls declined from 2025. Pepe attributed the decrease to the cyclical pattern of port visits rather than waning interest in Thunder Bay or Great Lakes cruising.
Thunder Bay serves as a turnaround port, allowing passengers to begin or finish their cruise in the city. Pepe said the relatively new expedition-class vessels, which carry 100 to 400 passengers, are designed to fit through the St. Lawrence Seaway’s locks.
The City of Thunder Bay, the Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission and Embark Port Services established Cruise Port Thunder Bay in 2024. The partnership coordinates services for cruise lines evaluating destinations and supports the additional operational needs associated with turnaround calls.
