Steel cutting begins for Carnival Tropicale in Germany
Carnival Cruise Line’s final Excel-class ship is scheduled to enter service from Galveston in April 2028.

Construction of Carnival Tropicale has begun with the cutting of the vessel’s first piece of steel at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The ship will be the final Excel-class vessel for Carnival Cruise Line.
According to Carnival’s plans, Carnival Tropicale will measure 1,128 feet long and have a gross tonnage of 180,000. The LNG-powered vessel is expected to accommodate more than 6,000 guests.
Carnival Cruise Line has opened reservations for the ship ahead of its planned debut in April 2028. Carnival Tropicale is scheduled to operate Caribbean cruises from Galveston, Texas.
Planned onboard features include Sunsation Point, a family-oriented themed area offering leisure and entertainment attractions. Its centerpiece will be Carnival WaterWorks Ultra, a multi-story water park. Carnival also plans to introduce dining and entertainment concepts aboard the new ship.
