St. John’s cruise schedule includes 27 more ship calls through October

Councillor Jill Bruce says later arrivals are supporting the province’s shoulder season and benefiting businesses across the Avalon.

Thousands of cruise passengers have visited St. John’s during the current season, and another 27 ships are scheduled to dock between now and October. The remaining calls will bring cruise visitors to the capital city during the later part of the tourism season.

Councillor Jill Bruce, the city’s lead on the cruise ship industry, said the later cruise arrivals are helping bolster the province’s shoulder season. According to Bruce, visitors arriving in late summer and early fall provide significant benefits for tour operators and local businesses.

Bruce said the benefits of the St. John’s cruise industry extend throughout the wider region. Many passengers take tours across the Avalon and spend money in several communities, she said, allowing businesses outside the capital city to benefit from cruise visits as the season continues into the fall.
