SpongeBob Musical to debut on Royal Caribbean’s Hero of the Seas
The reimagined production will open aboard the new ship when it begins sailing from Miami in August 2027.

Royal Caribbean has announced that The SpongeBob Musical will debut aboard Hero of the Seas when the ship starts operating from Miami in August 2027.
The production will be presented in the Royal Theater and will follow SpongeBob and his friends as they seek to protect Bikini Bottom from volcanic destruction. According to the cruise line, the show is being reworked specifically for Hero of the Seas rather than transferred directly from its Broadway staging.
Royal Caribbean plans to offer four to five performances each week. Rehearsals are scheduled to begin in March 2027, several months before the ship enters service.
Hero of the Seas will operate seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises from Miami. Every itinerary is scheduled to visit Perfect Day CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s destination in The Bahamas.
Other announced features include eight neighborhoods, nine pools and 28 dining venues. The ship will also have Crown’s Edge, a skywalk and zip line experience suspended 154 feet above the ocean, and Category 6, which Royal Caribbean describes as the largest waterpark at sea. Bookings are open for the ship’s 2027 Miami sailings.
