SpongeBob Musical to Debut at Sea on Hero of the Seas
Royal Caribbean plans to stage the Broadway production during the new Icon-class ship’s Caribbean cruises from Miami beginning in August 2027.

Royal Caribbean announced that The SpongeBob Musical will make its maritime debut aboard Hero of the Seas when the ship starts sailing from PortMiami in August 2027. The vessel will be the cruise line’s fourth Icon-class ship.
The production is scheduled for the ship’s main Royal Theater during seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries. Its story follows SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy as they work to protect Bikini Bottom from a volcanic eruption at Mount Humongous. The Broadway show received 12 Tony Award nominations.
Christi Coachman, Royal Caribbean’s vice president of entertainment, said the lineup for Hero of the Seas is being designed to appeal to a broad range of guests. She added that the musical is intended to bring generations together through a familiar family story while highlighting the cruise line’s production technology and creativity.
Hero of the Seas remains under construction at Finland’s Meyer Turku shipyard, where it recently completed its float-out.
