Small-ship lines highlight remote access and flexible experiences
SeaDream, Star Clippers and Ritz-Carlton pair yacht-style cruising with water activities, while ship size alone does not determine environmental performance.

Small ships can reach remote destinations that are inaccessible to larger vessels, according to a report examining the features of yacht-style cruising. The report says SeaDream Yacht Club may ask guests where they would like to travel on a future voyage and develop itineraries around those preferences.
SeaDream, Star Clippers and Ritz-Carlton offer activities such as snorkelling, kayaking and paddleboarding aboard their yachts. In some cases, guests can enter the water directly from a marina platform at the stern.
Dining can also be tailored aboard smaller vessels. According to the report, SeaDream prepares meals to order and can modify dishes to suit individual preferences.
Star Clippers’ traditional sailing ships use wind power when conditions allow, reducing their dependence on engines. However, the report cautions that smaller ships are not necessarily more environmentally friendly. Larger cruise ships can sometimes consume less fuel per passenger, making the practices of individual cruise lines a more useful measure than vessel size alone.
