Shetland plaque finds a place aboard National Geographic Endurance
Coach driver Steven Spence visited the expedition ship in Lerwick after creating a plaque depicting Burrafirth’s boat shed.

Coach driver Steven Spence was commissioned in June to create a plaque showing the boat shed on the Burrafirth slip. The piece was presented earlier in the year to the captain of the National Geographic cruise ship Endurance.
When Endurance later returned to Shetland and docked in Lerwick, shore excursion officer Paula Johnson invited Spence aboard to see where the plaque had been placed.
Spence found his work displayed on a wall in Captain Aaron Wood’s bridge, alongside presentations from other ports and places around the world. The visit also gave Spence an opportunity to spend time speaking with Wood.
Spence was then taken on a tour of the ship. The onboard visit allowed him to see the plaque in its new setting and marked what was described as an unforgettable day for its creator.
