Serenade of the Seas Alaska sailing cancelled after technical issue

The Royal Caribbean ship remained in Vancouver after its scheduled Aug. 30 departure and was moved to Lynnterm terminal for repairs.

Serenade of the Seas was scheduled to leave Vancouver for a seven-day Alaska cruise on Aug. 30 but remained in port for several days. Customers were initially informed that the voyage would be reduced from seven days to five.

A subsequent report said Royal Caribbean contacted passengers on Tuesday to tell them the sailing had been cancelled.

Alex Munro, a spokesperson for the Port of Vancouver, said the ship had encountered a technical issue. According to Munro, Serenade of the Seas was temporarily docked at the port’s Lynnterm terminal while repairs were carried out.

Royal Caribbean had not responded to questions about the cancellation by the time the initial report was published. No further details about the technical problem were provided.
