Search underway after Carnival Panorama passenger goes overboard
U.S. and Mexican authorities are searching for 56-year-old Thomas Gigler after he went overboard as the ship returned from Mexico to Long Beach.
Onboard camera footage confirmed that Gigler, a Redlands resident, went overboard from Carnival Panorama on Saturday, according to the report. Surveillance video showed him jumping from the ship while it was traveling back from Puerto Vallarta.
The U.S. Coast Guard said it deployed fixed-wing aircraft and was coordinating search efforts with the Mexican Navy and commercial vessels operating in the area. The agency said the search remained in progress.
Carnival said it was providing support to Gigler’s family members, who had been traveling with him aboard the ship.
Carnival Panorama continued its scheduled itinerary and arrived in Long Beach on Sunday while joint search operations continued in open waters.
