Search launched after woman goes overboard from Odyssey of the Seas
Royal Caribbean said it was working with authorities after the October 9 incident in the Ionian Sea.

A woman reportedly went overboard from Royal Caribbean’s Odyssey of the Seas at about 6 a.m. on October 9, 2026, while the vessel was sailing from Mykonos to Naples during a day at sea in the Ionian Sea.
Royal Caribbean said it immediately began a search-and-rescue operation, was cooperating with authorities and had deployed its Care Team to assist the guest’s loved ones. The company did not provide further details, citing the privacy of the guest and family. Official sources had not confirmed the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Local Greek news reports said the Greek Coast Guard was assisting in the search. Those reports described the missing guest as a 44-year-old citizen of El Salvador and placed the incident about 72 nautical miles southwest of Zakynthos, Greece. Three nearby ships, a Coast Guard rescue vessel and a military helicopter were reportedly involved.
A separate ship-tracking report said Odyssey of the Seas circled a small area for several hours and remained there at 7 p.m. local time. Passengers posting on Reddit claimed a light attached to a life preserver had been located, while the woman and the life preserver remained missing as of 1:50 p.m. EST.
Odyssey of the Seas departed Civitavecchia on October 4 for a seven-night Greek Isles cruise scheduled to visit Santorini, Kusadasi, Mykonos and Naples.
