Search launched after man reported overboard from Ambition
HM Coastguard coordinated a search east of Arbroath as the cruise ship continued to Dundee.
A search-and-rescue operation was launched after a man was reported overboard from Ambassador Cruise Line’s Ambition about 36 nautical miles east of Arbroath, Angus, at approximately 8.35am on Friday, according to HM Coastguard.
The response involved a coastguard helicopter and aircraft, RNLI lifeboats from Anstruther and Broughty Ferry, and coastguard rescue teams based in Dundee, Arbroath and St Andrews. A commercial search-and-rescue helicopter and several vessels in the area also assisted.
Ambassador Cruise Line said Ambition was sailing from Lerwick to Dundee when a guest could not be located. The ship later docked in Dundee, where passengers were permitted to leave after a search was conducted throughout the vessel.
The cruise line said the incident caused a slight delay to its Dundee turnaround operation. Passengers scheduled to join Ambition were advised to arrive at the port according to their existing embarkation times.
Police Scotland said the man remained missing while the HM Coastguard search-and-rescue operation continued.
