Ísafjarðarbær forecasts cruise-passenger income drop by 2027
The municipal estimate anticipates more than ISK 1 billion less income than in 2024, alongside fewer passengers and ship calls.

Cruise-passenger income in Ísafjarðarbær is projected to fall by more than ISK 1 billion in 2027 compared with 2024, according to a municipal estimate. The forecast also anticipates a 15 percent decline in passenger numbers and 36 fewer cruise ship calls over the three-year period.
The calculation assumes that each cruise passenger spends about ISK 24,000 in the community. Mayor Sigríður Júlía Brynleifsdóttir said an updated estimate of visitor spending was unavailable, so the municipality adjusted a 2018 estimate of ISK 16,000 per passenger for inflation to approximately ISK 24,000 at current prices.
Industry representatives have indicated that cruise bookings may not recover before 2028. Ísafjörður has previously introduced a daily limit of 5,000 cruise passengers to reduce overcrowding and protect residents’ quality of life.
