Royal Caribbean takes delivery of Legend of the Seas
The 5,610-passenger Icon-class ship is scheduled to welcome its first guests on July 4 following final outfitting in Spain.
Legend of the Seas has joined Royal Caribbean’s fleet after a delivery ceremony at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. Company and shipyard executives, along with Captain Sindre Borsheim, accepted the vessel in front of many of its 2,350 crew members.
The new vessel is Royal Caribbean’s third Icon-class ship, following Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas, and becomes the cruise line’s 30th ship.
Onboard additions include Royal Railway, an immersive dining venue with a five-course menu influenced by Italian, Turkish, Persian, Indian and Chinese cuisines. Other new concepts include the old Hollywood-inspired Hollywoodland Supper Club and AquaDome Market, an inclusive food hall with five concepts. The ship also has a new juice and smoothie bar.
Entertainment will include an adapted production of the Broadway musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Legend of the Seas also introduces Royal Caribbean’s first two-level casino, occupying forward sections of Decks 4 and 5.
The ship is due to travel to Cadiz for final outfitting. A short Malaga-to-Rome sailing for travel agents and media is planned for June 29, ahead of the first guest voyage on July 4.
