Royal Caribbean plans app-based room-service ordering for 2027
The cruise line is developing a digital ordering option as app use among guests exceeds 90%.
Royal Caribbean is developing a feature that will allow guests to place room-service orders through its app, offering an alternative to ordering by phone. Linken D’Souza, Royal Caribbean International’s senior vice president of food and beverage, said the option is expected to launch sometime in 2027, with more information anticipated early next year.
Royal Caribbean currently charges $7.95 per room-service order, plus an 18% gratuity. The charge covers any quantity of food ordered from the applicable menu, while a complimentary breakfast option remains available.
The planned addition expands the company’s use of mobile technology. Royal Caribbean Group CEO Jason Liberty said during an earnings call that more than 90% of guests now use the company’s app.
Royal Caribbean previously tested digital food ordering aboard Symphony of the Seas in 2019. During that limited trial, guests could use the app to request delivery to their cabins or selected pool-deck locations.
Similar functionality has also appeared inconsistently within the company’s broader cruise portfolio. A user named twangster reported being able to order room service through the Celebrity Cruises app aboard Celebrity Beyond in June. The same user said the feature was unavailable during a July sailing on Celebrity Ascent.
