Royal Caribbean linked to potential multibillion-dollar Sandals stake
Reports differ on the size and structure of a possible investment, while discussions could still end without an agreement.

Royal Caribbean is reportedly in talks over a major investment in Sandals, although accounts differ on the proposed transaction’s structure. One report, citing a source, said Royal Caribbean was nearing a deal to pay $3 billion for a 50% equity stake, implying a $6 billion valuation for the resort operator.
A separate report, based on people familiar with the discussions, described the potential transaction as the acquisition of a majority stake at a valuation exceeding $6 billion. Under that version of the proposal, Royal Caribbean would become Sandals’ controlling shareholder while members of the Stewart family would retain equity in the company.
The precise terms have not been confirmed, and another account cautioned that the negotiations could still collapse. Royal Caribbean did not respond to a request for information.
Royal Caribbean shares closed Tuesday at $234.89, down more than 6%.
