Royal Caribbean launches third Icon class ship, Legend of the Seas
The cruise line says the 248,663-gross-ton vessel is the world’s largest cruise ship.
Royal Caribbean has launched Legend of the Seas, the third vessel in its Icon class. The company claims it is the world’s largest cruise ship, measuring 364.84 meters long and exceeding sister ships Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas by four millimeters.
Constructed at Finland’s Meyer Turku shipyard, Legend of the Seas has a gross tonnage of 248,663. It can accommodate as many as 7,600 passengers and 2,350 crew members.
The ship includes seven pools, 20 bars, 28 restaurants and a waterpark. Its entertainment lineup also features a theatrical production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
According to the report, the Icon class platform incorporates liquefied natural gas propulsion, fuel-cell technology and an air-lubrication system designed to reduce hull friction and improve fuel efficiency. Legend of the Seas is scheduled to operate in the Caribbean and Mediterranean.
