Royal Caribbean expands Green Hubs waste network beyond 40 ports
The cruise group says the program supports its effort to divert nearly 80% of waste from landfills.

Royal Caribbean Group says its Green Hubs waste-management network now operates in more than 40 ports worldwide, helping the company divert close to 80% of its waste away from landfills.
Launched in 2014, the program had grown to 34 ports by 2023 before surpassing 40 ports in the company’s latest update. Green Hubs are ports where Royal Caribbean has identified and evaluated waste-management businesses capable of recycling, repurposing or otherwise processing materials brought ashore from its ships.
According to the company, its vessels have dedicated waste and recycling centers where crew members sort and process discarded and recyclable materials. Royal Caribbean also reported that every ship in its fleet has systems and procedures intended to avoid sending waste directly to local landfills. Vendors are monitored to confirm that shipboard materials are recycled, reused, repurposed or delivered to approved waste-to-energy facilities.
