Royal Caribbean cancels Serenade of the Seas Alaska sailing
The ship remained docked in Vancouver for days as technicians worked to resolve a technical problem.

Royal Caribbean International canceled Serenade of the Seas’ Aug. 30, 2026, Alaska departure from Vancouver after unsuccessful repair efforts, according to cruise industry reports and a company communication.
Guests were allowed to board on Aug. 30 and Aug. 31 and use the vessel as a stationary hotel while technicians worked. Continued difficulty resolving the problem meant Serenade of the Seas never departed Vancouver, and Royal Caribbean canceled the sailing on Sept. 1.
The cruise line referred to an unspecified technical issue and said repairs could not be completed in time for the ship to leave safely. Earlier documentation connected with the voyage linked the disruption to a propulsion-related problem that limited the vessel’s ability to operate the planned Alaska route.
Royal Caribbean required passengers to disembark by 11:59 p.m. the following day, ending the possibility of an abbreviated voyage. The company also offered affected passengers a future cruise credit equal to 100 percent of the original fare paid.
