Royal Caribbean Begins Construction on Fifth Icon Class Ship
The unnamed vessel is scheduled to launch in 2028 following a keel-laying ceremony in Finland.

Royal Caribbean International has officially started construction on its fifth Icon Class ship, marking the milestone with a keel-laying ceremony at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland.
During the ceremony, the first major steel block was lowered into the shipyard’s dry dock. Before it was positioned, Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku placed freshly minted coins beneath the block as part of a traditional shipbuilding practice.
The vessel has not yet been named and is scheduled to launch in 2028. Royal Caribbean currently operates three Icon Class ships, while the fourth vessel in the series, Hero of the Seas, is expected to debut in 2027.
The cruise line’s expansion of the class is set to continue after the fifth ship enters service. A sixth Icon Class vessel is scheduled to debut in 2029, followed by a seventh in 2030.
