Royal Caribbean begins construction of fifth Icon-class ship
The unnamed vessel is scheduled to enter service in 2028 as the cruise line expands its Icon-class fleet.

Royal Caribbean has marked the start of construction on its fifth Icon-class ship with a keel-laying ceremony at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. During the milestone, the vessel’s first major building block was lowered into the dry dock where the ship will take shape over the next two years.
The still-unnamed ship is scheduled to debut in 2028. Royal Caribbean said additional information, including its name, onboard experiences and entertainment offerings, is expected to be announced in the coming months.
The company is also advancing other ships in the class. Meyer Turku recently floated out Hero of the Seas, the fourth Icon-class vessel, ahead of its planned Miami debut in August 2027. Legend of the Seas, the third ship in the series, is scheduled to begin sailing from Fort Lauderdale in November after a summer debut in the Mediterranean.
Icon of the Seas is set to relocate to Galveston in August 2027, making room for Hero of the Seas in Miami. Royal Caribbean has also ordered sixth and seventh Icon-class ships for delivery in 2029 and 2030, respectively.
