Royal Caribbean and Galveston Wharves negotiate Pier 14 project
A final agreement would allocate responsibility for financing, construction and management of the proposed terminal facility.
Royal Caribbean and Galveston Wharves are in negotiations over the development of Pier 14 on the Texas Gulf Coast. The proposed project is intended to expand port capacity, ease congestion at existing terminals and make passenger embarkation more efficient.
Plans for the terminal include larger digital check-in and security screening areas, baggage systems designed for high passenger volumes, and additional lounge and passenger service facilities.
The parties are discussing how Royal Caribbean Group and Galveston Wharves would share responsibility for funding, building and managing the facility. Those arrangements have not yet been finalized.
The Galveston Wharves Board of Trustees deferred consideration of a preliminary memorandum of understanding to allow further discussion of the terms. The project cannot begin without a final agreement, which would establish its construction schedule and operational management framework.
