Royal Caribbean acquires 50 percent stake in Sandals Resorts International
The $3 billion investment is intended to broaden the cruise company’s land-based tourism offerings and encourage additional travel spending.

Royal Caribbean has acquired a 50 percent interest in Sandals Resorts International, the operator behind the all-inclusive resort brand, for $3 billion.
The transaction is aimed at expanding Royal Caribbean’s range of land-based options for tourists. The company also intends for the investment to provide travelers with more experiences and increase the amount they spend on travel.
Travel writer Megan Singleton said the deal would likely lead to offerings that combine all-inclusive resort stays with cruise-based experiences. Such a mix would bring together Royal Caribbean’s cruise operations and Sandals’ land-focused resort model, giving travelers access to both types of vacations through related experiences.
