Royal Canadian Air Force airlifts ill cruise passenger off British Columbia
The medical evacuation took place about 200 kilometres northwest of Port Hardy and involved aircraft from 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron.

The Royal Canadian Air Force conducted an airlift for a seriously ill passenger aboard a cruise ship off the coast of British Columbia.
The RCAF’s 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron deployed a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter and a CC-295 Kingfisher airplane during the early hours. The operation occurred approximately 200 kilometres northwest of Port Hardy, British Columbia.
After the Cormorant reached the cruise ship, two search-and-rescue technicians were lowered from the helicopter onto the vessel. The patient was then hoisted aboard the helicopter along with a travelling companion and medical personnel.
The helicopter flew the patient, companion and medical personnel to Comox, completing the evacuation from the ship. The Royal Canadian Air Force described the airlift operation as successful.
