Rockland prepares to welcome more than 1,000 cruise visitors
Celebrity Silhouette was scheduled to begin a series of large-ship calls as the Maine city readied shoreside assistance for passengers.

More than 1,000 cruise passengers were expected to come ashore in Rockland on Sunday as the city prepared to receive its first large cruise ship of the period.
Brenda Garrand, a spokeswoman for Port Share Promise, said arriving guests had been shown a video aboard the vessel covering basic questions about Rockland. Once ashore, passengers would also have access to a welcome center staffed by volunteers, she said.
Celebrity Silhouette was scheduled to be the first large cruise ship to arrive in Rockland and to make four visits in the coming weeks. The city said it expected to host nine cruise ships carrying a combined total of more than 13,000 passengers through Oct. 22.
