Report details cruise ship sexual-assault allegations since 2010
More than 150 cases of sexual assault or attempted rape aboard cruise ships were reported from 2010 through 2014, according to the report.
The report says cruise-line crew members have repeatedly faced accusations of assaulting and raping passengers since 2010. It states that many of the cases cited from 2010 to 2014 involved allegations against crew members.
Law-enforcement experts discussing sexual-assault cases generally estimated that the 150 reported incidents represented only about one-third of the assaults during that period, according to the report. On that basis, the potential total could have reached 450 or more. The figure is an estimate rather than a confirmed count.
The report also states that a cruise ship sexual-assault case may be pursued through both the criminal and civil court systems.
