QCAT to hear dispute over five cancelled Royal Caribbean cruises
Mark Timothy Grant is seeking about A$22,000 after Royal Caribbean cancelled complimentary cruise bookings and barred him from sailing.

The Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal has determined that it has jurisdiction to hear Mark Timothy Grant’s dispute with Royal Caribbean over five cancelled complimentary cruises.
Grant says he earned the sailings through Royal Caribbean’s Casino Royale programme and claims they had a combined value of A$22,040. He is asking the tribunal to reimburse him about A$22,000.
Royal Caribbean cancelled the bookings and placed Grant on a no-sail list after raising concerns about his casino activity. The company claims he broke casino house rules through card counting and other conduct.
Grant was denied boarding at Brisbane port after arriving with his partner and son for the first of the five planned cruises.
On 14 September 2026, QCAT Senior Member Samantha Traves set aside an earlier decision that had dismissed the matter. The tribunal has not decided whether Royal Caribbean was entitled to withdraw the cruises, whether Grant breached casino rules or whether he should receive the claimed compensation.
