Puntarenas cruise traffic projected to rise in 2026–27
INCOP forecasts 72 ship calls and about 150,000 passengers at the Costa Rican Pacific port.

Costa Rica’s Pacific cruise port of Puntarenas is expected to record a significant increase in traffic during the 2026–27 season, according to projections from the Costa Rican Pacific Ports Institute, known as INCOP.
The institute projects 72 cruise ship calls and approximately 150,000 passengers at the Puntarenas pier. If realized, the passenger total would be about 60,000 higher than in 2025–26, an increase of nearly 67%.
INCOP data show the port received 63 cruise calls and 79,000 passengers in 2024–25. Traffic is expected to rise to 64 calls and 90,000 passengers in 2025–26 before the larger projected increase the following season.
Across Costa Rica, statistics compiled by the Costa Rican Tourism Institute indicate that nearly 300,000 international cruise passengers arrived at Caribbean and Pacific ports between August 2023 and July 2024. The institute’s 2024–25 cruise reports describe the national market as rebuilding traffic and broadening itineraries.
INCOP President Wagner Quesada said cruise arrivals provide opportunities for local businesses while helping promote the natural and cultural attractions of Puntarenas and Costa Rica internationally.
