Ports of Jersey seeks more calls from mid-size cruise ships

The strategy aims to raise annual cruise calls from about ten to as many as 30 while targeting boutique vessels.

Ports of Jersey has launched a strategy to increase annual cruise calls from about ten to as many as 30, concentrating on mid-size ships.

The plan follows a report commissioned from cruise industry specialist Dr Jennifer Holland. The report identified boutique vessels carrying 500 to 1,000 passengers as ideal for Jersey’s harbours and anchorages.

Ports of Jersey estimates average direct spending of £70 per passenger per day and a wider economic impact of £160 per visit. The report says that as many as 30,000 passengers annually could contribute £2.1 million in direct spending and between £3.6 million and £4.8 million in wider economic impact, while supporting around 15 new jobs.

The strategy includes renewing engagement with Cruise Britain, reviving the Cruise Jersey brand, and coordinating with Visit Jersey and local ship’s agents.
