Port of Kemi targets Northern Europe and Arctic cruise itineraries

The Finnish Lapland port is scheduled to receive 10 cruise calls and approximately 7,000 passengers this year.

The Port of Kemi is positioning itself as a flexible option for cruise lines developing Northern European and Arctic itineraries. Located on the island of Ajos, about 15 minutes from Kemi’s city centre, it is the northernmost cruise port in the Baltic Sea and the only cruise harbour in Finnish Lapland.

The port is scheduled to handle 10 cruise calls and approximately 7,000 passengers this year. Plantours and Oceania Cruises are among the operators making maiden calls, while Hanseatic is also scheduled to visit.

The planned traffic compares with four calls and about 2,000 passengers in 2022, as well as seven calls and approximately 4,800 passengers in 2024.

Kemi has six berths, ranging from the 160-metre Berth 6 to the 420-metre Berth 7. Berth 7 also provides LNG and biofuel bunkering capabilities. The port does not currently have a permanent terminal dedicated to cruise operations.
