Port Louis plans cruise jetty extension as sea arrivals rise
Mauritius is preparing to expand cruise berthing capacity, with construction projected to begin around October 2027.
Official briefings summarizing the Port Master Plan 2024 list an extension of the existing cruise jetty among three priority infrastructure projects for Port Louis. According to the planning documents, work is projected to start around October 2027, with the aim of accommodating larger ships and increasing berth capacity.
The planned expansion would build on cruise facilities developed at La Saline. The Mauritius Ports Authority says the dedicated jetty was completed in 2010, while a modern terminal building opened in December 2023. Covering about 7,500 square meters, the terminal is designed to process peak flows of as many as 4,000 passengers.
Cruise activity has also increased at the port. The authority recorded 45 cruise vessel calls at Port Louis during the 2024/2025 financial year. Separately, Statistics Mauritius reported that sea arrivals rose from 20,147 in 2023 to 33,777 in 2024.
