P&O Cruises limits smoking and e-cigarette use to designated deck areas

The cruise line prohibits smoking in cabins, on balconies and in public rooms, while stateroom violations may incur cleaning charges.

P&O Cruises permits guests to smoke only in designated areas on open decks. The location of those spaces may change because of weather conditions or cleaning arrangements.

The same restrictions apply to electronic cigarettes, according to the cruise line. This includes devices that do not produce smoke or vapour. Their use is prohibited in cabins, on cabin balconies and in the same public areas where conventional smoking is banned.

Passengers found smoking inside a stateroom may face cleaning charges applied directly to their onboard account, according to the report. However, P&O Cruises’ published smoking policy does not say that every breach automatically leads to immediate removal from the ship.

Separately, the company says disrespectful or offensive conduct can result in a passenger’s holiday being terminated. If that happens, the guest is responsible for the cost of onward travel.
