Oceania Sonata floats out in Italy ahead of 2027 debut

The first of five planned Sonata Class ships has moved to a fitting-out berth at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard.

Oceania Sonata has floated out at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Marghera, Italy, and moved to a fitting-out berth, where work on its interiors will be completed. The ship is expected to make its official debut by August 2027.

The vessel will lead Oceania Cruises’ five-ship Sonata Class. The second ship, Oceania Arietta, is scheduled for delivery in 2029, while the remaining three vessels are planned for 2032, 2035 and 2037.

Plans for Oceania Sonata include 13 dining venues, among them two new culinary concepts. One-third of its accommodations will be suites, including four Owner’s Suites featuring two bathrooms apiece. The ship will also introduce Horizon Suites with more than 600 square feet of residential space and Penthouse Deluxe Suites offering 488 square feet.

The inaugural season is scheduled to run from August 2027 through April 2028. During that period, Oceania Sonata is planned to visit more than 90 destinations on itineraries extending from Europe to South America.
