Norwegian Jewel crew member arrested in Boston on federal charge

Norwegian Jewel crew member Bobby Prieto was arrested after the cruise ship arrived in Boston, according to court records. Authorities allege that more than 1,200 images of child sexual abuse material were discovered on his phones.
Legal filings state that Prieto, a 35-year-old Filipino national, appeared in federal court in Boston on a charge of transporting child pornography. He did not enter a plea and was ordered to remain in custody pending an October 1 detention hearing. The filings identify him as a crew member aboard Norwegian Jewel, which is operated by Norwegian Cruise Line.
An affidavit from a Homeland Security investigator said Prieto had previously been linked to about 75 reports involving child sexual abuse material submitted by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Authorities also said Prieto acknowledged that he was the adult shown in a video allegedly located on his devices and identified the girl depicted. According to the affidavit, he admitted receiving child pornography through WhatsApp from unknown senders, while claiming the files were automatically stored after he opened them.
