Norwegian investigates three Legionnaires’ disease diagnoses
The cruise line says exposure aboard Norwegian Prima has not been established and water-fixture tests have been negative so far.
Three travelers who sailed aboard the 3,200-passenger Norwegian Prima in May and July 2026 were diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease, according to a published report. The source of their exposure has not been determined.
Norwegian Cruise Line confirmed that three recent guests were diagnosed with the illness after traveling. The company said investigators have not established whether the travelers were exposed aboard the ship or elsewhere.
The cruise line said it is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to investigate the cases and reduce the risk of further incidents. It also said affected guests and crew had been notified in accordance with CDC guidance.
Norwegian said it has increased sanitation procedures and would take any additional measures necessary to protect passengers and crew. Testing of water fixtures aboard Norwegian Prima is continuing, with all results negative so far, according to the company.
As a precaution, public hot tubs and heated whirlpools on private balconies were expected to remain closed until sampling was completed and any necessary remediation had been carried out under CDC guidelines, according to the report.
