Norwegian Dawn Scores Below CDC Threshold in 2026 Inspection Review

CDC data placed six other vessels among the lowest-scoring ships reviewed, with each meeting the agency’s passing standard.

Norwegian Dawn received an 84 during a March inspection, falling below the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s minimum passing score of 86. The agency classifies inspection results of 85 or lower as unsatisfactory.

According to CDC data, Norwegian Dawn, Carnival Breeze, Kydon, National Geographic Sea Lion, Sun Princess, MSC Meraviglia and Amadea were the seven lowest-scoring vessels among the 2026 inspections reviewed.

Carnival Breeze, Kydon and National Geographic Sea Lion each received the minimum passing score of 86. The other three listed vessels also scored above the agency’s passing threshold.

The CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program periodically performs unannounced inspections of cruise ships in U.S. ports. The program examines onboard conditions to assess whether ships comply with federal public health standards.

The CDC notes that scores represent conditions observed at the time of an inspection and can change during subsequent reviews. Carnival Breeze received a perfect score of 100 earlier in the year before earning 86 in a later inspection.
