Norwegian Cruise Line Grant Expands Childcare Capacity in Seward
The Alaska port city directed half of a $1 million contribution toward closing a childcare gap and supporting workforce participation.

Licensed childcare capacity in Seward, Alaska, has increased by 150% since Norwegian Cruise Line provided the city with a $1 million grant, according to information about the investment.
Norwegian made the contribution in 2021 to support Alaska Seal conservation efforts. Seward allocated half of the funding to address a shortage of childcare, with the aim of helping parents enter or return to the workforce while having access to licensed care for their children.
The expansion could have a notable impact in Seward, a community of about 2,800 residents and a frequent cruise port. The city has invested substantially in childcare through the cruise line’s grant, increasing the number of licensed spaces available to local families.
