Narvik plans 2027 shore power launch and expands cruise excursions
The Norwegian port is investing NOK 93 million in shore power while developing turnaround operations and new visitor experiences.

The Port of Narvik plans to open shore-power facilities in the first quarter of 2027. The NOK 93 million project is being developed with Plug Nord and has received NOK 10.7 million in support from Enova.
According to the port, the installation will provide 12 MVA of capacity and accommodate 6.6 kV and 11 kV systems at both 50 Hz and 60 Hz.
Narvik is also adding two shore excursions. The 2.5-hour Ofot Fjord Shipwreck Experience will take groups of six to 12 passengers aboard Ofotr from Pier 2, combining fjord scenery with wartime history. A six-hour Navvy Trail tour for 15 to 30 guests will combine rail travel and hiking along the route used by railway builders. It includes coach and boat transportation, train tickets and guide services.
The port said it is developing cruise-turnaround capabilities by using its existing facilities and access to a 2,808-metre airport runway. It reported approximately 94 to 95 cruise calls this year and said bookings for both 2027 and 2028 have already exceeded 80 calls.
Narvik is also preparing a new cable-car system, which is scheduled to open on January 1, 2027.
