Music cruises bring fan communities and performers together at sea
Long-running festivals span rock, metal, pop, new wave, Americana and roots music, supported by complex cruise operations.

Themed music cruises have developed into floating festivals built around artists, genres and established fan communities. The Rock Boat, associated with Sister Hazel, launched in 2001. The Monsters of Rock Cruise brings together established hard rock and heavy metal acts with audiences connected to music from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.
Sixthman is among the companies producing music festivals at sea and collaborating with artists and fan communities to develop themed voyages. Its events have included The KISS Kruise, which transferred the band’s elaborate rock presentation to cruise ships, and Cayamo, which centers on songwriters, Americana and roots music. The 80s Cruise similarly gathers performers and fans around pop, rock and new wave from that decade.
Producing these events requires coordination across cruise charters, staffing, insurance, entertainment production, scheduling and maritime operations. Cabin payments form one part of the business model. Depending on how an event is structured, operators may also receive revenue from onboard purchases, shore excursions, merchandise and other services.
