MSC Group breaks ground on Sandy Cay in The Bahamas
The private-island destination for MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys guests is scheduled to open in 2028.

MSC Group’s Cruise Division has held a groundbreaking ceremony for Sandy Cay, a new private-island destination in The Bahamas. Construction and other site work are already underway ahead of the planned 2028 opening.
Located next to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Sandy Cay was announced in April 2026. The destination is being developed exclusively for guests sailing with MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys.
Plans for the island include dining options, spaces for relaxation, private retreats and hospitality services. Separately, planned enhancements at Ocean Cay include additional dining venues and new beach concepts designed for families and adults. The project also calls for expanded relaxation areas and experiences focused on marine conservation.
