MSC Group breaks ground on Sandy Cay in The Bahamas
The private-island destination beside Ocean Cay is scheduled to welcome MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys guests in 2028.

MSC Group has held a groundbreaking ceremony for Sandy Cay, a private-island destination in The Bahamas planned to open in 2028. The company said construction and site work are already underway.
Located next to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Sandy Cay is being developed exclusively for guests traveling with MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys. Plans include five beaches, waters for swimming and snorkeling, dining venues, private retreats and relaxation areas.
Ocean Cay is also scheduled for upgrades. Planned additions include more dining venues, new beach concepts for families and adults, expanded areas for relaxation and experiences focused on marine conservation.
MSC Cruises operates 23 ships and visits more than 250 destinations across five continents. Explora Journeys, MSC Group’s luxury brand, began operations in 2023 and currently has three ships. The brand plans to increase its fleet to six ships by 2028.
