MSC Breaks Ground on Sandy Cay Private-Island Destination
The Bahamian retreat, planned for MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys guests, is scheduled to open in 2028.

MSC Group’s Cruise Division has announced the start of construction on Sandy Cay, a new private-island destination in The Bahamas. Located beside Ocean Cay, the island is expected to welcome guests beginning in 2028.
Designed exclusively for passengers sailing with MSC Cruises and its sister brand Explora Journeys, Sandy Cay is planned to feature five beaches, private oceanfront cabanas, dining venues and seaside hospitality. MSC said the destination’s concept will emphasize wellness and a calm atmosphere.
The cruise group also confirmed plans to enhance Ocean Cay. Proposed additions include new dining options, distinct beach areas for families and adults, more quiet lounge spaces and expanded marine-conservation activities. Those experiences are expected to help guests learn about coral restoration efforts in the surrounding area.
