Mitsui Ocean Sakura unveiled ahead of Sept. 19 debut
The Japan-registered ship will succeed the retired Nippon Maru and focus mainly on cruises of one to three nights.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines’ cruise subsidiary presented its new Japan-registered cruise ship, Mitsui Ocean Sakura, to reporters on Sept. 16. The vessel is scheduled to begin service Sept. 19, taking over from the Nippon Maru, which was retired in May.
Mitsui Ocean Sakura measures 198.15 meters in length and 26 meters in width, with gross tonnage of 34,138. Its 229 guest rooms can accommodate as many as 458 passengers, and about 90% of the rooms feature balconies. The roughly 200-meter vessel is expected to operate primarily on short itineraries lasting between one and three nights.
Dining aboard the ship will retain roast beef and curry served on the Nippon Maru as traditional menu flavors. Other onboard features include a renovated sushi bar and a newly added foot bath.
