Mitsui Ocean Sakura Named in Yokohama Ahead of Debut

The former Seabourn Sojourn is scheduled to depart on its first voyage as Mitsui Ocean Sakura on Sept. 19.

Mitsui Ocean Cruises named Mitsui Ocean Sakura during a Sept. 16 ceremony aboard the ship at the Yokohama Hammerhead cruise terminal. Held at the vessel’s Ocean Stage, the festivities included a bottle smash, with the entire crew collectively serving as namers.

The former Seabourn Sojourn is a 458-passenger, all-suite ship measuring 650 feet in length. Its size enables calls at various Japanese ports, including smaller destinations and ports within easy reach of city centers. Mitsui Ocean Fuji, another ship in the company’s fleet, previously sailed as Seabourn Odyssey.

Mitsui Ocean Sakura is due to depart on its debut voyage Sept. 19. As a Japanese-registered vessel, it will initially concentrate on short- and medium-length domestic cruises.

The first three months through December will feature autumn scenic sailings lasting one to three nights, along with Christmas and New Year cruises. Mitsui Ocean Cruises has announced a total of 61 voyages through September 2027.
