Mexico doubles cruise passenger tax to US$10
The charge covers cruise arrivals at Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Cozumel and Costa Maya, with phased increases expected in 2027 and 2028.
Mexico has doubled its cruise passenger tax this month, raising the fee for travellers entering the country by cruise ship from US$5 to US$10 per passenger.
The tax applies to cruise passengers arriving at Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Cozumel and Costa Maya. Cruise lines are collecting the charge from travellers visiting those destinations by ship.
Further changes to the cruise passenger fee are expected over the next two years. The charge is expected to increase to US$15 in 2027 as part of a phased schedule.
Another increase is expected by 2028, when the cruise passenger tax is projected to reach US$21. The current US$10 fee, the expected US$15 charge in 2027 and the projected US$21 amount in 2028 apply specifically to travellers arriving in Mexico aboard cruise ships.
