Margaritaville at Sea picks Belfast yard for Beachcomber conversion

The former Costa Fortuna is due to enter Caribbean service from PortMiami in January 2027 following an extensive refurbishment.

Margaritaville at Sea has selected Harland & Wolff in Belfast to convert its third cruise ship, the former Costa Fortuna, as part of the cruise line’s expansion. The vessel is scheduled to relaunch in January 2027 as Margaritaville at Sea Beachcomber.

The ship is expected to arrive at the Belfast yard in September 2026, when conversion work is due to begin. Planned upgrades cover accommodations, public areas and exterior elements, including the central atrium, spa, children’s facilities, specialty dining venues and nightclub.

Harland & Wolff said the project is expected to contribute approximately £40 million to the Belfast region through use of the company’s repair yard, facilities and skilled workforce.

Following the refurbishment, Beachcomber is scheduled to operate Caribbean cruises from PortMiami beginning in 2027. Separately, Margaritaville at Sea plans to start weekly Friday departures from Galveston in October 2027. Its agreement with the port runs for one year and includes options for two additional five-year terms.
