Marella Cruises asks guests to stop hiding rubber ducks
The cruise line says objects left around its ships can create hazards, add plastic waste and be removed by crew.
Marella Cruises has asked passengers not to take part in the practice of hiding rubber ducks aboard its ships. The cruise line said toys, novelty items and other personal belongings left on vessels or at destinations can become hazards and are generally discarded by crew members.
The company connected the request to its efforts to reduce plastic waste, saying that leaving objects behind runs counter to that goal.
Marella also asked guests to avoid decorating public spaces and cabin doors with flags, banners, posters, stickers, magnets or similar items. According to the cruise line, keeping those areas unchanged supports both safety and the appearance of its ships. Crew members may remove belongings placed where they should not be.
Disney Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean have also asked passengers not to leave rubber ducks around their vessels, although neither cruise line has formally prohibited the activity.
